It was a Friday evening and we suddenly found our selves needing a place to dine. We popped into DiMario’s and they kindly gave us a table that was reserved for 8:00. We started with a ceasar salad which was absolutely perfect. The dressing was light and flavourful, but nothing overpowering. My wife had veal with a mushroom sauce and I had some kind of stuffed pasta dishs that looked like a large flower with some ricotta between the petals and smothered with a yummy rose sauce. My wife's meal included grilled vegetables and potato. I don’t normally like these kind of stuffed Italian pastas, but this was really good. Both are meals were off the charts good. The service was impeccable and very friendly.
After having walked out of another Italian restaurant on the Lakeshore where we had reservations because they had not even taken our drink order after a lengthy time, which is not something we would ordinarily do, we walked into DiMario's. Here we were greeted by the friendly staff. I requested a pasta dish with mushrooms and olives and my partner ordered the special of spaghetti and meatball. The chef talked to us from the open kitchen and asked us a few questions to accomodate our requests. I believe his name was Jonathon. The dishes were wonderful and the server was excellent. It was my partner's birthday and we plan to return with guests very soon.
First time around everything was 'adequate but not a value'. This time each meal was below acceptable and overpriced. The swordfish was mushy with a green no taste sauce. The smoke salmon was skimpy, not enough to taste in the pasta. The chicken was dry, overcooked. Heard some good things about the place but wouldn't go back now.
Went there last night with my boyfriend. The food was okay, the atmosphere was similar to any other italian restaurant...everything about the place was okay/good...just nothing unique or special. My only true complaint is about the service we got there. The waiter had forgotten to add our bottle of wine to the bill. I decided to show some class, and we pointed it out to him. He examined the bill and said, "oh I forgot to add the 2 expresso as well." Now I would have thought a "nice" establishment would want to keep their customers happy, to show appreciation for their business...and show appreciation of the fact that he just undercharged us and had made a mistake and we pointed it out - at our own financial detriment. I would (and did) expect him at least to return and thank us by giving us the measley 2 expressos on the house, considering we just saved the waiters behind, and the coffees cost a piddly 6 bucks. It's the sentiment and the gesture. But he didn't. There was the wine AND the 2 coffees on our bill. Given the fact that I STILL tipped him properly and didn't penalize him, shows I was still able to show some "class"...but I was shocked and insulted, and have no plans to go back.
Unfortunately we were seated right next to the kitchen even though we had a reservation. The service was good; i like that the servers are grown Italian men, not kids. They made exceptions where requested (i had my dish made without raisins and my guest had a plain salad made specially for him). There were very few vegetarian options. The food portions were perfect in size and delicious. The decor and atmosphere feels very classically back-home Italian. The complementary bread was fresh and delectable - probably the best part of the meal. The location is perfect, suitable parking available and close to the lake for an after-dinner walk.
