Camarra was born in 1922, in the pictureseque valleys of Central Abruzzo, Italy. Over the next four decades, the family carrying forward the business that was started by their mothers, built a reputation for fine food. After moving to Canada in 1958, the Camarra family decided to continue their long tradition of bringing authentic Italian cuisine to our tables. Over the years the restaurant grew quickly by word of mouth and their loyal costumers have shown a consistently great appreciation for Camarra's food for over fifty years.

This is the best and most authentic Italian restaurant anywhere, with the possible exception of Italy, in our opinion. The pizza is the closest to what we have had on our trips to beautiful Italia and probably superior to most of that as well. Each dish that we have tried in the many years that we have frequented this restuarant has been supperb. But our favorite remains, after all these years, their signature pizza. Visiting Camarras's is like visiting an Italian relative who just happens to be an amazing cook..... Comfortable, pleasant and so much delicious food. Our only disappointment is that it is located in Toronto and we are several miles south of Rochester NY in the states. We can never visit as often as we would like and when we do, we can't manage to eat as much, or sample as many things from their menu, as we would like. On one of out visits, we discovered that the owner and her family were from a small town close to the town in which my parents were born in Abruzzi. Finding that out, Elisa made us feel as special as family. We never come to Toronto without making a trip to Camarra's, and we will continue to do this no matter how great the distance. Love the looks on the Customs Agents' faces when they realize we are carrying a stack of pizzas home with us.

If you've got a young family and plan on dining at this restaurant without a reservation, I can't say that they'll be too accomodating. I arrived with my family, was told that it would be a few minutes to clear a table. Shortly after our arrival another family of 4 arrived without a reservation and was seated promptly. A few minutes later the owner arrived and and stated that they had no table available......that's it! No suggestions as to how long the wait would be...I've never been so mistreated. We fealt as if we were chased out of the restaurant. I can't say that I'll be returning any time soon!

I gave it an overall of 7, not lower (beacuse of the service) because we took it to go. Great pizza, tastes fantastic! Highly recommended for take out. Like I said, the staff acted a little too-good/snobbish, like they are doing some huge favour for turning 90 degrees and handing you your pizza. Otherwise, great.
