I have never written a review before, but I am compelled to write one today, as it was the reviews I used to decide where to eat in Port Hope. We started with the Caesar salad which was good. The rest of the meal was terrible. For $16.49, I got the JK Rowling chicken which as described in the menu as chicken in a red wine mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables. The vegetables were frozen, the mashed potatoes were either instant or had been cooked then froze, the mushroom gravy was canned gravy AND canned mushrooms , and the chicken was awful. The whole main course was like a super-sized frozen dinner. This meal was horrible to say the least.
We've been visiting "the Pub" since it first opened. The sign is faded, the decor is dated, the ceiling badly needs to be cleaned and painted since it hasn't had a reno since it opened and the place is covered in nicotine...But the wait staff are gentle, friendly people and if you order fish and chips every time you go there like we do, you will never be disappointed. I liked the menu better before they changed it but it's still a nice, laid back place to spend an evening with your family or friends. We've spent many evenings there celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and visits from friends from other countries. Nice memories there and in all the years we have been going there only one evening to complain about. I recommend this place because it is consistently good.
After a lovely round of golf at the spectacular Port Hope Golf course, my girlfriend & I went to the Winchester Arms for lunch. It was the worst meal I've had in a long time & overpriced for what we got. I ordered a chicken wrap with a garden salad & all I basically got was a huge chunk of tasteless lettuce in both. My friend had a BLT & said it was awful. We got diet pop with it & each bill was $16- $18!
The server never came back to ask how it was or if we wanted anything else. I will never go there again!
This is one of the better pubs around!! The service and atmosphere were fantastic. I would definetly recommend The Winchester Arms to all my friends!! Also if you get a chance to go there try a Monday Night cause Mike the bartender is really HOTTT!!!

I live in Port Hope and I think this restaturant is the greatest. I have tried pretty much everything on the menu and I have not had a disappointing meal yet.
If I was to recommend this restaurant to anyone I would say its the best Wings and Beer pub in Northumberland county and for dinner they always offer a lovely home-cooked english meal (Roast beef, potatoes, veggies, yorkshire pudding).
