Will Never Go Back
I've been here a total of 3 times, the first time I thought the food was pretty good, the service was good and the restaurant atmosphere was clean and inviting. The last time I went and I will never go back was a huge disappointment. I didn't like the food I ordered it was tasteless, and frankly tasted burnt. When I told the waiter he took the food away to the kitchen and the manager came back and argued with me and said the food wasn't burnt and there was nothing wrong with it. I told him I'm not going to argue with you about whether you think the food is good or not I don't like it and to me it tastes burnt. They didn't apologize didn't offer an alternative and billed me for it. I have worked in customer service roles for 10 years and was very disheartened by the way I was treated and the fact that I had to pay for food that was disgusting. I will NEVER go back. With so many options in the area, find another place to eat.

It was my first time at China Cottage on Ellesemere for lunch for a departing colleague. When the waiter brought out the bowls for soup, one of them still had food on it which he wiped away with his finger rather than bringing a new one. Next, the plates were brought out and two of them were not clean - they were replaced only after insisting. The carpet of this place looks old and dirty. Not a very good first impression. The place was quite full and it felt like the wait staff was trying to rush us out because they started taking away plates before all the food had been consumed and without anybody telling them to bring the bill. The food taste and temperature were satisfactory, but in the back of my mind, I was wondering what the kitchen must look like.Clearly a very popular place, but I won't be going back.

Worst Service....
Service was terrible from the minute we walked in, with the waiter not greeting us or being kind instead letting us know only take-out is possible since it was 9pm already. Followed by them preparing the food and serving it for take-out but putting no forks, spoons or napkins in the bag so literally had to drive back since I was still close enough to do so. Not recommended.

Have been to both locations (Ellesmere location & Steeles location, which just recently opened by the Scarborough NE Wal-mart Super Centre on Steeles between Middlefield & Markham Rds.) Excellent Food, Great Portions, Friendly Staff, Extremely Reasonable Prices. I definitely recommend this restaurant (both locations) for anyone looking for any of the above lines.

Dining in China Cottage brought back golden memories of mumbai. The quality of food was very good as well as it's price. Felt I was back in mumbai. The place is well kept. The servers are all friendly and polite. The place has it's warmth called "the desi warmth." I would definately re-visit the place soon :-)

I love China Cottage. The food is wonderful and the service is great. When I worked in Scarborough, a group of us from the department would go to China Cottage every Wednesday for lunch. The group started out as 3 people, as the department grew so did the group for Wednesday lunch at China Cottage (up to 9 at times). I am now retired, however I try to get to China Cottage as often as I can. I Love the Food & I Love the Waiters.

This eatery is a "Diamond in the Rocks"
Best experience i've had so far, in terms of food quality, quantity and excellent service. The waiters do a fantastic job and they care about you. Very busy place. I would suggest everyone who likes spicy food to go and try it atleast once !!

TOO SPICY! YUCK
I did not eat in, but called to pick up. I cannot handle spice very well, but my partner can, and even this was much too spicy for him. We spent $16 dollars on the food, after telling the waiters on the phone to make it very mild ... when we got home it was over spiced and we ate a couple spoonfulls but were left with boxes of uneaten food... will probably not eat there for a long time.

The food is cold and the portion is very less for the price. Just 10 small piece of shrimp for 9.95 which is ridiculous, the menu say 12 pieces. The pepper chicken taste very salty, in fact most of the food is either salty or too much oil in it.

This is the ultimate family restaurant. The staff know us personally and cater to our individual tastes, even preparing us dishes that are not on the menu. Our grandson is behaviourly challenged and the staff has embraced him, redecorated after he has left and welcomed him with love. When we're in a hurry, we can get a great meal, and dash in about 30 minutes.
