When her grandfather died, Ariel Bourbonnais was saddened, of course, but she never thought to follow in his footsteps as a photographer. Her uncle insisted on giving her his camera, though, because she reminded him of her grandfather. “Apparently we are a lot alike,” she smiles. Ariel thanked him, put it away, and there it sat for years.
When she took photography as part of her digital media course at Ryerson University, she immediately loved it. Photography became a way for Ariel to express her artistic vision, even if she found it a lot to learn. In fact, the constant challenges of are part of the appeal for her today.
“I’m always learning because conditions are always different — the weather that day, the subject, the way the light hits a face.” Sweet Bow Photography began as a hobby that became a vocation.
