Disappointed

This is a basic Niagara region past its prime tryoing hard to be a Toronto restaurant. It failed. While the service was very good, the decor and food left much to be desired. The room in which we dined looked tired and outdated. It needed to be cleaned or something; I can;r put my finger on what was wrong but I felt like I wanted to open all the windows to freshen the place up the minute I arrived. The menu was extensive but very expensive. It was too expensive for what was delivered; especially in the Niagara region. A few in our party ordered italian style entrees which tasted dried out and flavourless. Clearly, if you are in the mood to eat italian - go to an italian restaurant. I would not visit this restaurant again.

FANTASTIC

My boyfriend and I wanted to celebrate our recently moving in together so we researched the restaurant listing on the internet. We visited the Lakehouse web-site and from the reviews it looked like the experience could go either way. Our experience was fantastic and made the occasion even that more memorable and celebratory. We started with escargot and garlic shrimp. Thinking the escargot would be in puff pastry I didn’t think I would like it but in fact it was on a bed of puff pastry with a mixture of other goodies. We ordered the caprese and mushroom salads and we were both trying to pick up the ingredients so we could try to make it at home. We both ordered the filet mignon and it was like butter. For the finale we had the crème brule. Although the sugar topping was cooked for just a bit too much I still enjoyed every bite. Our young server, Malcolm, was polite from beginning to end and the young lady who poured our champagne for us was very pleasant. The manager also stopped by to make sure all was well. We are so looking forward to going again; hoping to get a table by the window. The only suggestion I would have is for the staff to be more knowledgeable about their wine and champagne list and pave the parking lot. It had been raining so it was a little muddy. Otherwise I would highly suggest this fantastic dining experience.

Too expensive for what you get

Lets start with the maitre d'(ess). We had no reservations. No problem, however, as there were a number of tables for two available. So why were we shown the "sucker table". You know, the worst table in the house - dark, set in a nook at the side where the traffic is? Why do restaurants do that? Why do they start filling the worst tables first and then work their way up rather than the other way round? After all these years I still don't get this weird unwritten rule. Its annoying and forces the customer to scout around for a better location - which really shouldn't be necessary. (Interestingly other twosomes after us were immediately shown the better tables - may be she learned.) The food: The starters were excellent, as is the warmed homemade bread. The NY Strip was tasty (topped by crispy onion rings) and done the way it was requested. It was also a large serving. Unfortunately the veal was overcooked and tough. It had the taste of President's Choice. The spaghetti was dried out and lukewarm, the sauce forgettable. Obviously it was waiting while the rest of the meal was being done. Certainly not worth money. This is surprising since this restaurant advertises itself as Mediteranean. The waiter service: friendly. But why not fill the wine glasses when you can clearly see that the glasses are empty? And why bring the cooler after half the bottle has been drunk? There was no offer of water; again its up to the customer to request. In total, an adequate meal but really not worth the $140.00 without coffee or dessert.

View Can't be Beat

My family and I first ate here as a result of traffic on the QEW - what we didn't expect from a restaurant just off the busy highway was the incredible view and calm atmosphere that the Lake House delivered. This time I took my mother for lunch and the Lake House salad is served warm and with grilled vegetables and chicken breast, drizzled with a balsamic reduction. It was perfect for an afternoon meal - I didn't feel hungry all night (and that was after hours of shopping!)

Overallour esperience was enjoyable at the Lake...

Overallour esperience was enjoyable at the Lake House restuarant, it was our first visit and it was great. Over all the waitress was nice, only issue I had was that she was a little hard to hear as she soft voice, the restuaruant was packed and was really loud. The food was also good as my brother and I both ordered the NY Strip Steak, it was hot and cooked the way we had asked for it. My wife really enjoyed the vegatable risotto and the stuffed chicken dish was great. I would recommend this resturant to anybody who liked hot good food for a good price.
