With a heritage that literally comes from the other side of the world in Melbourne, Australia, Café Code Black has found its niche offering specialty coffee to the trendiest of Montrealers since it opened in early 2014. Owner Gus Haddad, previously a novice in the coffee world, credits a childhood friend with his flourishing interest in coffee and the enterprise that comes with it. “I think I was ripe to discover something so detail-oriented and intricate - you never know you’re in love until you’ve already fallen, it seems!”

Reputed internationally as the best coffee city on Planet Earth, Melbourne’s shops have pioneered and refined the most popular approaches to “Third Wave,” or specialty coffee. Among those pioneers is Code Black Coffee, whose ethic and legacy Gus has recreated with his own café. “I’m fortunate to have friends with a reputation, but when you take to this work and the quality it requires, you’re surely going to find yourself ahead of the curve.”

    Cozy little cafe in Le Plateau, European style. Great cappuccino. This place is very open to students who need to study but also can enjoy a great afternoon atmosphere.
