Just revisited on a Friday. Luckily, I found parking in their tiny lot, about 20 spots, that it shares with Swiss Chalet. And I'm sure that non-patrons park there too! Positive: The atmosphere is quite nice, dimly lit, tealights at tables. Service is also pleasant. I accidentally tipped over my tea and it was addressed immediately. Not-so-positive: I would say that sushi is *just* okay. When maki rolls arrived, from a distance, it just literally looked like a plate of white rice. Presentation was definitely their weak point. Pieces were not only cut unevenly, but they also fell apart as I picked them up with my chopsticks. Rolls were not rolled tight enough. Instead they were quite large and loose. We had a family get together of 10 people dining at Crystal Rolls tonight. I highly recommend this thai-asian restaurant to people who are interested in asian food. Crystal Rolls has a big variety of food choices and almost each dish we ordered was delicious and authentic. We also enjoyed their romantic atmosphere and clean environment. Nice music and excellent service too. The best thing was that we didn't spend a lot of $ but we had a great time and great food. I am a patron using a disbility device and while the restaurant is not "accessible" perse they do their best to make you feel comfortable. The have great sushi, sashimi, tempura, teriyaki, soups & my favourite Japanese style salad! Decor could use an update but it's clean and comfortable. There's a hidden entry from parking behind the restaurant or the double doorway at the front. Last night I decided to eat in for the first time since becoming differently abled so to speak. I had the Legend Boston roll with crab, Japanese mayonaise and salmon topper. It was very rich so I suggest if you try this do it with several people so everyone can have a taste, it was lovely but too rich for just one person to demolish. I had the shrimp tempura dinner which has tempura vegetables with it. Last night the tiger shrimp were lovely and fresh and the mix of vegetable composed of squash, sweet potato, onion and broccoli were very yummy. They make amazing tempura sauce. The meal comes with salad, miso soup, rice and huge plate of tempura so again great for sharing! I took home a cucumber roll for my son but seriously considered their toonie Tuesday offer which is a California roll, max of 2 given the offer, but my son is new to Japanese os a simple cucumber roll. Some may or may not know, but Okasame is where you allow the chef to choose what you eat for that meal. I have been allowing the chef to pick for our dinner now when we go there. I found the chef is a really friendly person who likes to socialize with his guests. I hardly find places like this. I like the atmosphere there. It has traditional tatami rooms and decorated with japanese dolls and wall items. Which is hard to find in usual Japanese cuisines. I found the food quality to be great, although some might argue it is expensive. I do not find this place highly overpriced. I like quality rather than quantity. This is also why the chef has never served me sushi since you can eat that anywhere else (such as an All you can eat sushi). The appetizer which I usually have started off with is a dish which consists of 5 to 7 small dishes. It contained two different dishes of Japanese abalone. One of them was a softer texture, which tasted great. Another dish was shark fin, I found it unique since I usually drink in a soup. In stead this time I ate it as an appetizer dish. One of the ones I loved from this small dish appetizer was the small fishes one. They are white and small. They were soft and chewy. I loved this appetizers with its many different texture and favored dishes. One of the main entrees was the fresh fish which was served as sashmi first by using one side of the fish. The other half is cleverly decorated while you finish the sashmi. Afterwards the server will then take the second half for the chef to grill it. One fish with two different taste! I also tried the fresh clam served with lemon. Which was interesting how the lemon mixed with the clam perfectly. The texture was great to chew on. I found the crab sake rice to be great to. Since it is not your usual fried rice. Some people loved it whereas some females found it a bit to salty. Nevertheless It was good. Also the plum sake was sweet and perfect for ladies that don't like the regular sake. Overall, I will recommend this place to everyone! Read more
