Had a fabulous dinner, new partner n' I ordered the tuna tartar, caesar salad, and scallops for starts, had the lamb and sea bass for mains, and apple tart for dessert. Divine really, all of it very expensive though. But my boyfriend was treating me for my birthday and I was very happy and incidentally for a new relationship deeply touched. Service was lovely, had a bit of an accident and spilled my half glass of red on the boyfriend, oops, manager noticed the mishap and brought us a tide to go stick. Our server was great and quite on top of things. Place was packed on a Tuesday:) Will be back, fabulous. If not a little pricey recommend for anyone. Read more

LOVE! with so many options for Chinese in Victoria, you can't go wrong with Sampan Express. If you are looking for table side service, linen, candle light, may be a bottle of wine.....etc.. this would NOT be the place for you . I visited West with a friend that had been there a couple of times before. The outside of the restaurant was very unassuming. You would have no idea that there was a fantastic restaurant inside. Parking may be an issue as it's a busy streetfront but they did seem to have valet. We sat at the bar and had cesars until our table was ready--made fresh with muddled tomato right in front of our eyes. The food was all amazing both in appearance and taste. REALLY good. You have to remember when going here that this is a wine tasting room, not a place to have dinner. The wine list is imaginative and approachable. The service on a good night is excellent, on a bad night is so-so, but the staff have always been very helpful with the wine choices, pairings, and flight recommendations.
