We had a great time at Bijou and I don't agree with any of these negative reviews. To me a chalkboard menu and higher prices reflect this restaurant's commitment to local food and keeping things interesting during changing seasons. I respect this restaurant for providing quality food and taking their time rather than taking a touristy "more bang for your buck" approach.
One that note though, I did notice the service was a little slow. Not really slower than I'd expect considering the care that goes into the food, but if you're rushing to catch a show this place is maybe not your best bet. When we had our Stratford trip we made our reservation on a night where we weren't seeing any shows and got to appreciate a slower paced and delicious meal.

Great meals. Food was all fresh and high quality. Eggs to order, breakfast meats tasty, coffee is good and ample. Not much atmosphere except for the working class people, mostly men before work or lunch break. Everyone seemed very at ease and unpretentious including the staff who were eager to please. Easily the best place to eat north of London Ontario. We go on vacation every year to Bayfield and stop by for a meal on the way up and on the way back. We started going in 1995, and the food and service has been great every time. Can't wait to go back in 2010. Gotta love those huge portion sizes and great prices too!!

As dessert connoisseurs we can say the bitter chocolate hazelnut torte was to die for. The food was great, the decor eclectic (in a good way). The wait staff were so very courteous and helpful - and gave just the right amount of attention.

My first visit was pleasant enough. We were greeted right away and accomodated for our party of 5. At first I was not really impressed with only the 'make your own stirfry' option for dinner but was told it was excellent. Tons of selection of meats, veggies and sauces...wasn't sure where to start! Guys at the fryer seemed to really enjoy their jobs, it was very entertaining to watch. Food was really yummy. Atmosphere was alright, didn't really notice any defectives like others are posting. Waitress was somewhat reliable in refilling our drinks. When it comes to tipping, the guys at the fryer really earn theirs however not sure about the waitresses as all they did was bring us water....nothing from the menu was ordered. The only downside to this place is the price (15.99 per person Mon-Thurs is the deal we did) but I guess for others it's an awesome price for the food.
