We (myself and my daughters) stopped by on route from the Ottawa to home (Hamilton) on Sunday August 8th to order take out. Our family has stopped at the Gateway Restaurant for decades to enjoy their always delicious family style meals. We ordered club sandwich platters and a BLT platter- sooooo delicious as always. Can't say enough about this place. My wife and I discovered E&A's 2 years ago and go back at least once a month. I read some negative comments on this page and frankly, I think that these were written by E&A's competition because for the most part the comments were complete rubbish. We have never had a bad experience there, and the food and service has been cosistently top notch. They have the best seafood platter we have ever enjoyed . Their meals although pricey are filling and delicious. It can be cold if you sit in the front in the winter though. If you sit at the chef's table you can watch your meal being prepared. Someone commented that the steaks are pre-cooked and warmed up?? I have watched my raw steak cooked to perfection in frontt of my own eyes so I don't know were that comment came from. We highly recommend E&A's and as a matter of fact, we are going there tonight again!
P.S. They make the best Ceaser I have ever had too.

Formerly..The Winchester Arms has recently been converted to the new Beaufort Pub ! The changes are amazing ! Main floor washroom added ! No need to go all the way downstairs anymore ! On the main floor the lounge and bar has been redesigned complete with fireplace, lounge chairs and new updated televisions. The lounge has had many new daily food and beverage specials added also ! Deals that cannot be beat ! Every Tuesday at 7pm they have hosted Trivia ! Great turnouts and worth the visit ! Saturday Matinees with both single and duo blues and/or jazz band from 1 to 4pm create a great afternoon event to get out of the house and beat the winter blues!!! They have added so many different dinning room features and added many different food menu item specials that are worth checking out ! They have great friendly staff and food is very good ! The old Winchester was run down,,it is great to see that the ownership made all of these great changes ! It's a busy pub with lots of atmosphere ! REALLY WORTH CHECKING IT OUT ! They now have a great website and are linked to facebook so now we are constantly able to be updated on current upcoming events ! Great job !! It was time for a change !!!! Heat pump stopped working in Dec 2017. Went to two major companies in Trenton ontario.both charged me $100.00 and did nothing. They were more interested in selling me a new unit. Breakfast dining at John's transports you well back into the last century when folks had significantly different service and culinary expectations. Don't miss the experience.
As I entered John shouted a hearty "Sit anywhere and I'll be with you in a minute." greeting from the open kitchen in the rear of his restaurant. So I sat at the chrome-trimmed counter and the few nearby customers nodded their welcomes to me. John promptly brought the menu and my coffee. "If you want a refill, help yourself.", he said pointing to the coffee brewer on the back bar. I like this. It's like being transported back into Mayberry, West Virginia. Only Sheriff Andy and Deputy Barney haven't arrived for their morning coffees yet.
My scrambled eggs were perfectly done, light and fluffy with just the right amount of moistness. The accompanying sausages were lightly grilled. Just browned, not deep fried that renders the casing nearly inedible as most others places seem to do in the name of culinary expediency these days.
A customer from further down the counter strikes up a conversation with me and then takes out his wallet to show me the picture of his first car, a 1954 Ford. What do you have in your wallet?
John is 85 and in apparent good health. But go to this little glimpse of the past and revel in the experience. It may not be available to you much longer.
If it's not too busy, ask and John will share some details of his lifelong career of serving others carefully, charmingly, honestly and completely to the very best of his ability. How many other restaurants can do that?
John's prices are embarrassingly low while the experience is rich beyond all expectations. I didn't want to leave.

Used them yesterday as we had a small flood in the basement when a pipe connection let go. Called them around 5:30 PM and left message with answering service and they called back in under a half hour. They were at our place by 6:30 PM and all repairs and clean up plus another job that I had was completed by 7:30 PM. Very happy with them. Two young guys, very polite and willing to explain what they were doing. Will definitely use them again if the need arises.
