My husband and I love Sushi........ so we have been to alot of different resturants in the city. We stumbled into Kumo one night just before Christmas, the place was empty and we were a little nervous at first but decided to stay anyways. Let me tell you...... I think my husband got 1 bite. It was amazing!! We ordered a big party tray for dinner, the specialty rolls ( godzilla, spicy girl, kipling, superman) are the best I have ever had! Sushi servings are massive, fish is incredible fresh. The chef is absolutly amazing at what he does, we have been back 3 more times and now leave everything up to him, his home made sauces simple extra touches make the meal!!! Faced with an 8 page menu, exhaustive in its range of enticing descriptions of Japanese and Korean food, I opted to sample the former side by having soup, salad and appetizers (3 as it turned out). I love miso soup and have had incarnations of it in many places in Canada and abroad but this broth was simply fabulous in the depth and complexity of what is often a flat, watery introduction to a meal. The poky salad (fresh tuna, julienned seaweed, etc.) was vibrant, flavourful and spicy as advertised. I started my appetizer foray with mandu yaki (small homemade dumplings with a combo of 8 different ingredients) and tako yaki (fried minced octopus balls with a unagi and katsu sauce on the side). Can you say FABULOUS?. Having washed it all down with warm sake, I rested for a while and then tackled a tempura dish: soft shelled crab (4 pieces) with a ponzu sauce. Cheer again. Service was attentive and friendly and relaxed especially when the young lady and John, the son of the owner realized that I wasn't in a hurry. (I was honoured with a tempura zucchini sample from the owner's garden (in the back he said when I mentioned that he had tomatoes growing in the front). This is simply wonderful food, presented with smiles and pride by people who love doing what they do. I can't wait to return and try some deeply Korean dishes of which there is an abundance on that wide-ranging menu. Read more

This restaurant has excellent sushi. The fish is so fresh and very high quality. The ratio of fish to rice is perfect. I've been eating there since it opened and their quality and great service have been consistent since day 1. Our "go to" meal for two is the medium Sushi Moriawase which is a 30 piece assortment of sushi and maki, a small salad and miso soup. I find the value for the money very good at $30 for two (+ tax and tip). I'm thankful they opened so close to home so I can get a good sushi fix whenever I need one! Read more

Although the place isn't new or fancy, it's great for casual family dine-in and quick takeout. Sometimes it gets really busy on weekends, longer wait than usual but worth the wait :p If you are looking for a place with great food taste, this place is right for you. I'd say sashimi varieties and sushi plates are the best as they are of the freshest quality. Also the place is quite small so not adequate for big party size though. Ali’s has been around for a long time! My family has been going to Ali’s since before I was born and the food has always been tasty with a homemade flare. The location isn’t very nice and doesn’t feel very safe but we still drive a great distance to eat an Ali’s roti. The aloo pie is great; they have good Palourie with tasty sauce. The chicken shrimp and goat roti are excellent. The peanut punch is sooth and creamy and they also have great doubles. I always enjoy everything I order from Ali’s . The last time I went the roti stuffing was a bit scarce compared to what it use to be, but it was still good. The street parking can be a bit tricky at certain times of the day with the street car tracks and limited spaces. I would recommend Ali’s to everyone and I am sure we will continue to go there for many years to come. Read more

While Zen is our favourite Japanese Restaurant, my boyfriend and I have enjoyed dining here for their enoki maki (thin slices of beef wrapped around enoki-Japanese mushrooms). Their nigiri and sashimi while delicious is not a priority for us to order as they serve very thin small pieces for the price you pay. We have also had their sukiyaki (we cook ourselves on the table) and it is large enough for 3 people, although much more expensive ($60 for 2 people which includes rice and raw egg for dipping) than other restaurants where we have enjoyed the same. The sukiyaki comes traditionally (as they served), with slices of thin sukiyaki beef, tofu, Chinese cabbage, green onion, oyster mushrooms, shitake mushrooms and regular mushrooms, transparent thin noodles and onion. Their broth was excellent-not too sweet. A great meal to have on a cold day. Read more
