"I used to work in the oil field industry," says Freeman Fei, owner of My Cup Coffee & Tea in the heart of Kerrisdale. "I knew nothing about running a café. I took over My Cup Coffee & Tea in January 2014 and I had to start from scratch, learning about how to make fancy drinks and understanding coffee."

But within six months, Freeman realized he had a new career as a barista.

"I thought I'd be running the café as a little hobby, for pleasure," laughs Freeman. "Turns out, it's taking up a lot of my time. But I love it. I really enjoy being here and making coffee for our customers."
