Left behind

In a city of fantastic restaurants this place just did not cut the mustard. Decor was from another era and the food just did not match the prices. The food wasn't bad, but for the same price you can literally walk down the street for better. PS: The apple pie was amazing and is outsourced by a local baker.

Back on top

I hadn't been to the Waring House in some time, even though I had always liked the place. However, there was a special event in the County, and the Waring House had a special menu. Everything I ordered was excellent, and the service was extremely swift and courteous. The atmosphere here is also nice. There is only one restaurant in the County ahead of it, but I will leave it to you to discover what that is.

It's the little things that count, and there were a lot of little things. Like no internet in our attached hotel room. No soap in the bathroom. Thick, gelatinous beef-barley soup, the day's special. A $17 salad of dubious freshness. Wine that arrived 15 minutes after the main course was served. A $19 cheese tray with three thin slices of cheddar, a thin slice of Oka, and a couple of pats of goat cheese, surrounded by a zillion crackers to make it look good. All this for $400 - $200 for the meal with wine, $200 for the room for one night. The wine list was weak in the extreme, which was curious given that the area promotes itself as a wine list. There was some good - the pork was good, although my partner's steak was flavourless. The vegetables were crisp and delicious. But bad appetizers, bad desserts (or "deserts" according the menu), bad wine, and high prices were too much to overcome.
