La Cornette Touffue

La Cornette Touffue is a hairdressing salon located on Sainte-Catherine Street in Hochelaga. Its name may make you smile, and so will the story of how it came to be.

Hairdressing was not the salon owner's first career choice. Julie Duquette was an industrial designer for 12 years until one day she simply had enough of spending her days on the computer. "I wanted to see people, I wanted to talk," explains Julie, who when she was younger, had thought of working in the field. "I always liked hairdressing. Often when I was a teen, my friends would get together and dye each other's hair, and it was always me [who did them]. You know, staying up all night braiding your friend's hair, that was me."

Julie took her hairdressing course and developed her business plan at the same time. After trying her hand in another salon for six months, and after discovering the perfect location in her neighbourhood, she opened La Cornette Touffue in February 2016. "It was a big change, but a welcomed change. And I love that. I'll do it for the rest of my life, for sure!"
