Jiu jitsu is an ancient art developed by monks. Its purpose is to teach self defence and enhance the harmony between the mind and the body.  Here are five reasons that your kids should start jiu jitsu.

5 reasons to enrol kids in jiu jitsu classes

1. Self-confidence

  • Many kids suffer from a lack of self-confidence because they aren't sure how to handle themselves in different situations.
  • Bullies are a big problem for kids and if a child knows how to defend him or herself, it will make them more confident and less afraid of bullies.
  • Jiu jitsu strives to teach kids how to defend themselves when they are in danger.

2. Self-discipline

  • Self-discipline is a quality that a child will need throughout his life. Jiu Jitsu training is centred around the art of self-discipline and asks practitioners to follow a strict diet, train regularly and take care of themselves and their minds and bodies.
  • These techniques will help your child in everything from schoolwork to relationships.

3. Exercise

  • Many kids don't get enough exercise in their daily lives. Between sitting at desks in school and watching television in the evenings, they often lose valuable movement and exercise opportunities.
  • Jiu Jitsu requires strenuous regular exercise in order to perfect techniques and will help your child stay fit and in a healthy weight range.

4. Making friends

  • Jiu jitsu is also a great way for both parents and kids to meet people and make friends. Your child will likely be in a group class with an instructor.
  • It gives him or her the chance to socialize outside of school with kids that have like-minded interests. It also give you the chance to meet other parents and make friends with them.

5. Role models

  • Parents make great role models, but kids need other people to look up to as well.
  • Your child might find that one of his instructors or another experienced jiu jitsu master is a great role model for him or her. It's good to introduce healthy role models into their lives so they don't end up choosing unhealthy ones.
