6 new restaurants coming to Calgary in 2018

Gringo St.

This new spot is offering a “gringo take” on Latin street food by serving up fun dishes such as cheeseburger tacos, gringo guacamole and queso fundido with hot cheetos. Gringo St. is the sister restaurant to Cleaver, so expect a trendy, cheerful atmosphere.

Pin-Bar Sandwich Co.

Eat. Drink. Play. Pin-Bar will boast a variety of pinball machines and classic arcade games to keep you entertained while you enjoy their sandwiches and other bar snacks. The restaurant is fully licensed and will serve beer and cocktails.

Butter Block Co.

Head to this new spot for handcrafted pastries. Currently, you can only find Butter Block Co. pastries at a variety of local retailers such as Sought x Found Coffee Roasters and Monogram Coffee or by ordering them online. But mark their soft opening on the calendar (Jan. 11), where you’ll be able to sit down, relax and enjoy a pastry at their shop in the Devenish Building.

Uzu Taiyaki

Taiyaki – a Japanese fish-shaped cake – will be the star at this eatery located in Calgary’s Chinatown district. While the traditional filling is red bean paste, you can get ready for cake stuffed with soft serve ice cream in flavours such as matcha, coconut and black sesame.

SaVeg Café

This 100 per cent plant-based vegan cafe just opened up in downtown Calgary and is located inside Heavens Fitness. The vegan-friendly menu features smoothies, breakfast sandwiches, tofu wraps, japchae and more.

Sought x Found Coffee Roasters

After a soft opening in December, Sought x Found Coffee Roasters celebrated their grand opening in January 2018. The new shop takes pride in sourcing high-quality ingredients and beans for their menu, including fresh pastries from Calgary-based bakery Butter Block.
